Dinh Binh Lake is the first project in Vietnam constructed by roller compacted gravity technology. This is one of the major irrigation projects of Vietnam but in recent years, the main goal is to reduce drought and flood. Dinh Binh reservoir has a total investment of over one trillion dong with multiple tasks: fighting minor floods, early floods, late floods, mitigating main floods and after full capacity will provide water for irrigation. 34,000 ha of agricultural land. In addition, this project also provides water for industry, rural areas, people and aquaculture. Regular downstream discharge 3m3 / s to protect the environment against runoff and saline intrusion in the estuary combined with N = 6,000kw electricity generation.
The focal construction of Dinh Binh reservoir is mainly a 52.3m high river dam, 611.25m long, 9m wide crest, 95.55m high crest height constructed by gravity concrete technology Roller (RCC) in Vietnam with a total volume of concrete of all kinds is 432,500m3. The advantage of RCC is that fast construction reduces construction time, significantly reduces the amount of cement in 1m3 of concrete, thereby reducing the heat generated in the concrete pouring block which is the main cause of concrete cracking. Continuous construction can be carried out if the design is appropriate and the organization of the construction is reasonable. Using less formwork, a high degree of mechanization during special construction reduces costs compared to conventional concrete by 15-20%.
